New Delhi, Jan 02 (ANI): Dogs, cats and other animals may help autistic children to be more assertive, says a new research. Researcher has found that children with autism have stronger social skills when any kind of pet lived in the home.The revealed that children with any kind of pet in the home reported being more likely to engage in behaviors such as introducing themselves, asking for information or responding to other people's questions. Such social skills typically are difficult for kids with autism, but the study showed children's assertiveness was greater if they lived with a pet. Kids with autism are highly individual and unique, so any pet animal at home might provide many benefits.

Suspense continues over government formation in J-K, BJP asserts importance

New Delhi, Jan 2 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party once again said on Friday that no stable government would be possible in Jammu and Kashmir without the party's participation, even as the suspense over government formation in the state continues. Two days ago, People's Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti, the leader of the largest party, had also met the Governor. After the meeting, Mehbooba Mufti appeared to lean towards the BJP as she invoked former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's vision and said Prime Minister Narendra Modi "has a big responsibility" towards the state. In the five-phased recent state assembly polls, the PDP won 28 seats in the 87-member Jammu and Kashmir assembly; the BJP won 25, while the National Conference and the Congress won 15 and 12 seats respectively. The majority mark was 44, which none of the four political parties achieved. So far, no party or combination of parties, has staked claim to form government.

Corrective measures have been taken, normalcy is being restored: Suresh Prabhu on Mumbai train servi

Mumbai, Jan 02 (ANI): Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Friday while speaking on the Mumbai train services disruption said that corrective measures have been taken and normalcy is being restored in the region. He added that he had called a meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, ministers and the concerned officers of the state to discuss the matter. Services of local trains in Mumbai were affected after an overhead cable wire fell down on the tracks. There were also reports of stone pelting and torching of vehicles by disgruntled commuters in and around the Diva Station.

Hospitals well-equipped to handle swine flu cases: Nadda

New Delhi, Jan 02 (ANI): Union Health Minister JP Nadda on Friday said the government is closely monitoring the situation following reports of two women being infected with swine flu, and added that hospitals are well-equipped to handle such cases. Two women, one from Telangana and another from Andhra Pradesh, were reported to be infected with swine flu earlier in the day.

Heavy rainfall hits capital

New Delhi, Jan 02 (ANI): Heavy showers hit the national capital on Friday, bringing traffic to a standstill in many parts of the city. The Meteorological department had earlier predicted that intense cold and foggy conditions will continue in North India, adding that the region could experience some respite from the fog in January. North India is reeling under an intense cold wave, with minimum temperatures in the national capital plummeting to 2.7 degrees Celsius.

Hosiery factory in Ludhiana catches massive fire, no casualties reported

Ludhiana, Jan 02 (ANI): A massive fire broke out in a hosiery factory in Ludhiana city causing heavy losses, but no casualty was reported. Fifteen fire tenders were rushed to douse the fire which gutted the factory. The fire quickly spread through the five-storey building. Fire officials said no worker was inside the factory when fire broke out. Raj Kumar, a fireman, said it took around five hours to douse the fire. Owner of the factory, Rajiv Kumar said that the fire was massive and loss will be huge.

Two injured in crude bomb blast in Burdwan

Durgapur, Jan 02 (ANI): At least two people were injured in a crude bomb blast in the Durgapur area of the Burdwan district in West Bengal. According to the media reports, the explosion took place when some individuals were trying to assemble crude bombs. The injured have been shifted to a local hospital for treatment. The police have not been able to find any terror angle to the blast. Investigation is ongoing and further reports are awaited.

New Delhi, Jan 2 (ANI): Politicos on Friday demanded a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the skull cap controversy. An anti-terror mock drill by the Surat Police had sparked a storm after one of the person posing as a terrorist wore a skullcap suggesting that the terrorists belonged to a particular community. The incident came under severe criticism.

US Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard meets Arun Jaitley

New Delhi, Jan 02 (ANI): US Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard on Friday met Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in New Delhi to boost economic ties. Gabbard is the sole Hindu member of the US Congress. On her maiden visit to India, which commenced on December 15, Gabbard met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj. She also met chairman of National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) and interacted with several entrepreneurs and IT pioneers in Bengaluru. Her tour ends on Saturday. The Democrat from Hawaii discussed issues like environmental challenges, regional security challenges and militancy with Modi.
