Assam's Boko block office gets ISO certification

Assam, Nov 4 (ANI): Situated in the Kamrup district, the Boko block was once a hub of insurgents. However, with the efficient implementation of welfare schemes and the active participation of villagers in the development process, the block has made steady progress. In a rare accomplishment, it recently received the ISO certification which recognized the block office's efficiency. The International Organization for Standardization or ISO develops standards to ensure that companies and organizations consistently provide products and services of good quality. The block office has extensively used various schemes to undertake a series of development works for livelihood generation and infrastructure development.

NAGA students union, Delhi (NSUD) celebrates its 50TH year in the national capital

New Delhi, Nov 4 (ANI): A large number of people of the Naga community from the northeast gathered at the TYAGARAJ complex to mark 50 years of living in Delhi. The main theme of the event, where pictures were put up, was "Pause, Rewind and Play". The NSUD was established in 1963. During the event, a group of students performed a harmony dance in their colorful attires and mesmerized the audience. 'Inspiration Awards' were also given to some Naga achievers in recognition of their work in different fields.

Strike in Bangladesh takes toll on trade and bus service with India

Akhaura, Nov 4 (ANI): Trade between India and its neighbouring Bangladesh is facing the brunt of continuous strikes and unrest in Dhaka as hundreds of passengers are also stuck due to halt in bus services across the border. On Saturday, the bus services resumed after almost a week, but the visitors expressed their anger, as the transportation service to Bangladesh is still very uncertain due to regular strikes in Dhaka. Trade in Tripura and Bangladesh has been badly affected and the business community claims that there is a dip in the number of trucks transporting goods across the border. Normally around 200 trucks loaded with various items from Bangladesh enter Tripura through the Akhaura LCS but at present due to the adverse law and order situation in Bangladesh, the number of vehicles plying is less than 20.

Demand to boycott Commonwealth meet in Sri Lanka increases

Chennai, Nov 4 (ANI): Student wing of Free Tamil Eelam held a protest on Monday in Chennai, demanding India to boycott the Commonwealth Heads Meet in Colombo against Sri Lankan war crimes, amid speculations of Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh's participation. Arputhammal, mother of Perarivalan who is facing death sentence in Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, also participated in the protest and said that the Commonwealth meet should be cancelled. Meanwhile, DMK leader TKS Elangovan said that his party has demanded that the Indian government should not participate in the meeting.
