PM, Sonia inaugurate first all-women bank

Mumbai, Nov 19 (ANI): Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday inaugurated the country's first all-women bank, the Bharatiya Mahila Bank, an initiative to empower women, with a corpus of rupees 10 billion to function as a universal bank. The announcement for this initiative was made by Indian Finance Minister, P Chidambaram during the annual budget, earlier this year. The inauguration of the bank coincided with the birth anniversary of former Indian Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. While addressing the media persons, Sonia Gandhi said that the bank's staff should ensure coverage of the farthest and least accessible women in the country.

Govt bond yield spike temporary: P Chidambaram
