India needs to develop strong domestic base in telecommunications, electronics: PM

New Delhi, Dec 5 (ANI): Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday emphasized on the need to develop strong domestic manufacturing base in electronics and telecommunications with an aim to avoid difficulties in financing huge imports. Singh, while inaugurating the 8th edition of 'India Telecom 2013', said that telecom sector has contributed significantly to country's economic growth and has created valuable employment opportunities. During the conference, Singh also said that telecommunications has the potential to reduce socio-economic disparities. Singh also said that the government aimed to provide reliable and affordable broadband access to rural and remote areas.

Nobody is above law: Shobha Oza on AK Ganguly sexual harassment case

New Delhi, Dec 05 (ANI): After an NGO filed an FIR complaint against Justice AK Ganguly (retd.), who has been accused of sexually harassing a law intern, All India Mahila Congress President Shobha Oza said that nobody is above law and the law should take its course. Further, she said that if Ganguly is innocent, he will be released with due respect. Oza said that after an FIR is being launched against anyone, he/she should leave his government position.

Fresh trial ordered in Salman hit-and-run case, definite relief for Khan, says petitioner

Mumbai, Dec 05 (ANI): After a Mumbai court on Thursday ordered a fresh trial in the Salman Khan hit-and-run case, petitioner in the case, Abha Singh said that this is a definite relief for Khan and that his lawyer will take full advantage of the same. The court has ordered that all evidence and witnesses be re-examined. The hearing in the case will begin from December 24. According to an earlier court order, the Bollywood actor be tried for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, which attracts ten years of imprisonment.

He said that the bill will surely benefit the people and stop any communal violence from taking place. Further, he said that the UPA government should have brought this pending bill much before and they have just woken up from slumber.

Narayan Sai rebuffs sexual assault allegations

New Delhi, Dec 05 (ANI): Self-styled Godman Asaram Bapu's son, Narayan Sai on Thursday rebuffed the sexual assault allegations, after the crime branch of Delhi police arrested him on a complaint lodged by two sisters from Surat. A court in New Delhi granted a 24-hour transit remand of Sai along with two others to the Guajrat police on December 04 in the alleged sexual assault case.

BJP opposes communal violence bill

New Delhi, Dec 5 (ANI): Leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday said that they would oppose the amended Communal Violence Bill, in the parliament. The Party said that the timing of the move by the government is suspicious and the bill is driven by political considerations and vote bank politics. It also added that He said that if the Bill is implemented then it would fragment the society and increase violence.
