Congress says it will back AAP as long as it works for welfare of Delhi

New Delhi, Jan 2 (ANI): Newly-appointed Delhi Congress Chief Arvinder Singh Lovely on Thursday stated that his party is supporting AAP to ensure the development of Delhi. He further said his party will support AAP in its move against corruption. Taking a dig at BJP's Harsh Vardhan, Lovely said that that he is being selective in his outrage towards corruption. Lovely asked Kejriwal to take stern action against corruption in MCD.

India, Maldives agree to boost cooperation in maritime security, vow to foster relations

New Delhi, Jan 2 (ANI): India and Maldives on Thursday agreed on a roadmap to boost cooperation in maritime security along the Indian Ocean, following a delegation-level meet between visiting President, Yameen Abdul Gayoom and Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, in New Delhi. President Gayoom is on a four-day trip to India, which ends on January 04. Addressing mediapersons, Gayoom said that the countries in the Indian Ocean region must resolve issues concerning the maritime security. Gayoom said that he and his council of ministers were committed to boost bilateral ties with India and improve relations, keeping aside the past disputes. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, said that India has agreed to provide a stand-by credit facility of 25 billion US dollars to Maldives for importing products from New Delhi.

CBI probe should continue in AgustaWestland scam even after cancellation: Defence Expert

New Delhi, Jan 02 (ANI): Retired Lieutenant General PN Hoon on Thursday said that even though India has cancelled the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal, there should be a CBI inquiry to expose all the wrongdoings in the deal and the people involved. India cancelled the controversial Rs. 3,600-crore contract for 12 helicopters meant for VVIPs with UK-based AgustaWestland amid allegations that deal was riddled with kickbacks on Wednesday. The announcement came after a meeting between Defence Minister AK Antony and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday. The defence ministry has said that the "violation of a pre-contract integrity pact" led to the decision.

Adarsh scam report partially accepted after Rahul Gandhis objection

New Delhi, Jan 2 (ANI): The Maharashtra government on Thursday partially accepted the Adarsh housing scam report. Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan made the announcement at a press conference after a meeting of the state cabinet. The stage for review was set after Rahul Gandhi last week disapproved the decision of the state government to reject the commission report and said it should be reconsidered. Chavan said legal action will be initiated against 25 ineligible members of the housing society.

Festive fervor grips Northeast as people come together to celebrate Christmas

Manipur/ Tripura, Jan 02 (ANI): Carols, Christmas trees, prayers and cakes…it was Christmas time again!! Things are improving in Manipur and the people celebrated the birthday of Jesus Christ, with enthusiasm. People from different faiths visited churches to offer prayers on the festival that sends out a message of love and brotherhood. Everybody wished for peace and prosperity in the region. In Tripura also, people from all religions came together to celebrate the festival with enthusiasm. Hundreds gathered at the Santir Rani church in Agartala to take part in the annual Christmas Eve midnight mass. Markets were crowded with people of all age groups buying gifts and cakes for their loved ones. Carol singing, dances, and other forms of merrymaking marked the occasion. People were busy decorating Christmas trees at homes and churches.

North India shivers under grip of enduring cold wave

Amritsar/ Kanpur/ Shimla, Jan 2 (ANI): Large swathes of north India bore the brunt of cold wave and icy winds as temperature in several parts of the region breached the sub zero level, with hill-town of Shimla and Punjab witnessing coldest nights. Cold waves swept parts of northern region with minimum temperatures hovering around several notches below normal even as fog reduced visibility in the morning at some places.

Pervez Musharraf suffers severe heart attack, in ICU: Reports

Arvind Kejriwal wins trust vote in Delhi Assembly

New Delhi, Jan 02 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal won the confidence motion in Delhi Assembly on Thursday after delivering an emotional speech. The Aam Aadmi Party government sailed through the confidence motion getting 37 votes in favour with seven Congress MLAs, one from JD (U) and the lone Independent Rambeer Shokeen voting in favour with the Bharatiya Janata Party (31) and Shiromani Akali Dal (1) against it.
