Congress- BJP hit at UP govt move to dismiss case against Muzaffarnagar riot accused

Lucknow/ New Delhi, Jan 05 (ANI): Congress and BJP hit at the Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday for its 'bias' decision of withdrawing riot cases against politicians of minority community. UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav wants cases against hate-monger politicians withdrawn in public interest. GSLV-D5 launch successful, K Radhakrishnan says ISRO team finally did it

Sriharikota, Jan 05 (ANI): ISRO Chief K Radhakrishnan lauded successful launch of Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle-Development 5 (GSLV-D5) with indigenous cryogenic engine on Sunday. The GSLV-D5 successfully placed GSAT-14 communication satellite on orbit. Radhakrishnan said that finally the ISRO team did it and acknowledged that this was a hard-worked upon project since a long time. He said that the vehicle performed as predicted and the team feels that it has finally paid its debt to the country.

ISRO launches GSLV-D5 satellite successfully

Sriharikota, Jan 5 (ANI): The ISRO on Sunday successfully launched the Geo-synchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle or GSLV-D5 from the space port at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. The advanced GSAT-14 communications satellite that GSLV-D5 is carrying has also been separated from the rocket. If launched into orbit successfully, the Rs. 350-crore mission will mark India's entry into the multi-billion dollar commercial launcher market on a fully indigenous large rocket.

Hundreds run in Kolkata marathon to spread cancer awareness

Kolkata, Jan 05 (ANI): The young and the old gathered in hundreds in Kolkata on Sunday to take part in a marathon to create awareness about the cancer disease and support the underprivileged cancer patients. From celebrities to corporate to school children, participants beat the chill as they ran for the noble cause for over 42 kilometres along the city streets. Former captain of Indian cricket team, Sourav Ganguly, was also present at the event to encourage the participants.

Surat exhibits diamond studded replica of Mahatma Gandhi's spinning wheel

Surat, Jan 05 (ANI): Jewellers in Gujarat, the birth state of Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, paid a tribute to the independence hero by creating a miniature replica of his iconic spinning wheel with gold and diamonds. The spinning wheel decorated with 45 grams of gold and 820 diamonds is on display at Sparkle International 2014, a gems and jewellery exhibition in Surat. Jewellers are hoping that their effort would foster the growth of diamonds globally. The dazzling wheel lured visitors at the exhibition to take a close look, appreciating the combination of the wheel, a symbol of self-reliance and non-violence, and precious diamonds.
