RPN Singh considers suspected IM terrorist arrest as great achievement

New Delhi, Mar 25 (ANI): MoS for Home Affairs RPN Singh on Tuesday said that IM terrorist arrest is a great achievement for the intelligence agencies. He went on to say that government has always taken strict action against terrorism and in the last one and a half year the government has given a strong fight to terrorists by arresting some of the major ones.

BSE closes points 12.76 down on March 25

New Delhi, March 25 (ANI): Trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange today closed 12.76 points down to stand at 22,042.72. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty 6.25 points up to stand at 6,589.75. Dish TV India and Ashok Leyland were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 6.24% and 5.97% along with Apollo Tyres and Container Corp with an increase of 5.87% and 5.85% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include Pipavav Defence and Indian Bank with a decrease of 3.02% and 2.88% along with Oberoi Realty and RIL with a decrease of 2.87% and 2.87% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is up 40.62 points at 12,929.12 while the banking sector is up 40.22 points at 14,220.05 and the realty sector is up 18.09 points at 1,394.04. The Indian currency is up 0.47% at Rs 60.49 per dollar.

Jodhpur police arrest aide of IM terrorist

Jodhpur, March 25 (ANI): Jodhpur Commissioner of Police Sachin Mittal on Tuesday confirmed that a special police team arrested Barkat Ali, an accomplice of suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorist Mohammed Sakib Ansari. He said that Ali has been arrested after police got some operational details and that further detailed investigation is on. Barkat had managed to escape as he was tipped off by his accomplice Adil about the arrest of Ansari before police could raid his house.

Odisha police hold flag march in Maoist hit area encouraging people to vote

Gajapati, Mar 25 (ANI: Police forces in Odisha conducted a flag march in Maoist infested Gajapati district on Tuesday to boost the morale of people and encourage them to vote, as they face security threat from insurgents during general elections. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and district police held the march throughout the region. Maoists seek the violent overthrow of the Indian state but have so far not managed to spread significantly into urban areas. The flag march has left a positive impact on people, who are appreciating the effort by the police, and they hope for the march to be organized in rural areas as well.

DMK Chief M Karunanidhi permanently expels MK Alagiri from party

New Delhi, Mar 25 (ANI): DMK chief M Karunanidhi on Tuesday permanently expelled his elder son MK Alagiri from the party, two months after suspending him. The DMK had even threatened disciplinary action against party members if they were found to be in touch with Alagiri. The party general secretary K Anbazhagan, in a statement had said that Alagiri was causing confusion by organizing meetings on the pretext of meeting his supporters. On January 24, the DMK had suspended 63-year-old Alagiri for opposing Karunanidhi's younger son MK Stalin, 61, who is tipped for the party's top post.

Japan woos tourists

Tokyo, Mar 25 (ANI): Tokyo Marathon 2014 attracted many participants from Japan and across the world. The annual citizen marathon, which starts from Tokyo Metropolitan Government building, has become one of the world's major marathons along with Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York. About 36,000 runners took part along with the world's elite runners. 10 per cent of the participants were foreigners. The marathon organizers received 300,000 applications for the event, but only 10 per cent of them were selected through a draw. The marathon passed through Tokyo's landmarks such as Imperial Palace, Tokyo Tower and the town of Ginza and Asakusa and concluded at Tokyo Big Sight Convention Centre.

Jharkhand: Landmine blast injures three policemen

Khunti, March 25 (ANI): At least three policemen were seriously injured in a landmine blast triggered by Naxals in Jhankhand's Khunti district on Tuesday. The blast took place near the Murhu police station in the Kotna village where the officers were engaged in anti-Maoist operations. Superintendent of police, Anees Gupta, threw more light on the incident. For better treatment, they have now been sent to Apollo hospital in Ranchi. Gupta also said they are inspecting the site of the blast. Operations and raids against the Maoists have been taking place in the area.

Malaysian PM confirms MH370 crashed, Indian family mourns loss of kin

Ahmednagar/ New Delhi, March 25 (ANI): After the declaration made by Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak about the crash of missing Malysian flight MH370 in Southern Indian Ocean, relatives of the passengers in India mourn over the death of their kin. The relatives express shock as well as anger at the news saying that in this world of technology, it is hard to believe that a Boeing plane can go missing. Meanwhile, retired Rear Admiral K Raja Menon expressed doubt over the statement of plane crash as there has been no valid proof for it. The launch of an official air crash investigation would give Malaysia power to coordinate and sift evidence, but it may still face critics, especially China, which had more than 150 citizens on board the missing plane and has criticised Malaysia over the progress of the search.
