JandK govt organizes horse auction to help pony owners in Srinagar

Srinagar, July 27 (ANI): Government of Jammu and Kashmir in partnership with Department of Forest organised horse auction on Sunday during tourism season to aid pony owners. The auction took place in Qamerwari forest office at the out skirts of Srinagar city, mainly for the benefit of pony owners. This summer, tourism is at its peak during this time of the month in Srinagar valley and the holy Amarnath Yatra is also going on with full spirit. So tourists and pilgrims who visit Pahalgam, Sonamarg and Gulmarg generally require the pony services. A pony owner, Nazir Ahmad welcomed the auction.

UN fears for Burmese refugees as Thailand plans to repatriate 100, 000 of them

Burma-Thailand Border, July 27 (ANI): Thailand began a census of Burmese refugees at the country's largest camp on July 21st. The government now run by the army says it will send home to Myanmar about 100, 000 of the refugees who've been living in camps along the border for more than two decades. But the United Nations High Commission for Refugees is concerned that those sent back to Myanmar will face serious dangers. Some of those now living in the refugee camps are also worried about the prospect of going back, while many fled to escape poverty, persecution and ethnic wars. There are an estimated 120, 000 Burmese refugees living in ten camps along the Thailand-Myanmar border.

Chinese graziers pitching tents in Ladakh nothing to be concerned about: Praful Bakshi

New Delhi, July 27 (ANI): Talking about the Chinese graziers who reportedly pitched tents in the Demchok area of Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir this week but withdrew after talks between troops on either side of the border, Wing Commander (Retd), Indian Air Force, Praful Bakshi said that this is nothing to be concerned about. The incident comes on the back of two reported incursion attempts by Chinese troops earlier this month in Demchok and Chumar areas of Ladakh. Bakshi said that the new government in India would not leave any stones unturned in this regard. He said that China will make a serious attempt in some time from now to see if the Indian army is ready. He also said that the Indian army should be ready at all times in such incidents.

Exiled Tibetans narrate inside story of homeland through arts, aiming to capture world focus

Dharamsala, July 27 (ANI): Exiled Tibetans in Dharamsala narrated the inside story of their homeland through performing arts in a bid to capture world focus. A group of Tibetan activists, musicians, singers, painters and poets came together with an idea to use performing arts as a medium to show Tibet’s struggle before the people across the globe. Tibetan artists said it was an effort made to gain attention and letting people know about the atrocities committed on Tibetans through various forms of contemporary art. Tibetan artists like Bhuchung Sonam, writer in-exile said that every art expression is important because it conveys the story in its own special way and attracts the world audience. Meanwhile, a tourist from Colombia, Sisa said it was a good idea to convey the message through various art forms and makes it easy for common people to understand what exactly was happening in Tibet. Tibetans in exile in India initiated in different waves. The first set of Tibetans fled in 1959 following the 14th Dalai Lama's self-exile in Dharamsala in India. Another wave followed through opening up of trade and tourism.

Bangladesh PM vows to work closely with UK to strengthen partnership

Dhaka, July 27 (ANI): Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina vowed to work closely with Britain to build strong partnership between the two nations. Hasina was addressing a news conference in Dhaka city after she concluded a three-day official tour to UK for the Girl Summit. At the invitation of her British counterpart David Cameron and UNICEF executive director Anthony Lake, the Bangladesh premier visited the UK from July 21 to July 23. Terming her UK visit as successful, Hasina said bilateral relations between UK and Bangladesh would reach new heights.

Fire officials rescue 28 people stranded due to flood in Gujarat

Vadodara, July 27 (ANI): Fire officials in Gujarat state rescued 28 people, who were stranded near a flood-hit area along the banks of Vishwamitri River in Vadodara city. Due to heavy rains pounding the city since Friday evening, the water from Ajwa reservoir was released to the river, which has now flooded. Officials of Vadodara Municipal Corporation called fire officials as soon as they received information of stranded people. Firemen arrived and started rescue operations and all 28 people, including children, were rescued.

Commonwealth Games 2014: India at fifth place in medal tally

Glasgow, July 27 (ANI): Indian shooters hogged the limelight on Day three of the Commonwealth Games 2014 being held at Glasgow. Prakash Nanjappa gave India the first medal of the day by winning a silver in men’s 10m Air Pistol event. Soon after, Apurvi Chandela and Rahi Sarnobat clinched a gold medal each in shooting as India continued its good show at the games. India's Rajwinder Kaur bagged a bronze in women's +78kg judo competition to add to the three medals the country won in the sport, while Omkar Otari won a bronze in the men's 69kg competition to continue India's strong show in weightlifting.

Politicos react on communal violence in Moradabad

New Delhi, July 27 (ANI): Politicians on Sunday condemned the recent communal clashes of Uttar Pradesh, which erupted after villagers protested over the installation of loudspeakers at a temple. At the epicenter of the trouble in Moradabad district is a temple in Muslim-dominated Akbarpur village belonging to the Jatav community. Congress leader, Rashid Alvi said that the BJP is responsible for the Kanth violence. NCP leader, Tariq Anwar said that Akhilesh government has very less control.
