Vijay Goel clarifies controversial speech over migrants from UP and Bihar in Delhi

New Delhi, Aug 01 (ANI): BJP leader Vijay Goel on Friday clarified his speech in Rajya Sabha, pointing that migrants from UP and Bihar should be stopped from settling in Delhi, which had created controversies among political leaders. Goel said that his speech has been misunderstood by those who want political gain from it. He added that he had asked to provide all facilities in other states like UP and Bihar such that migrants do not feel the need to leave their home towns and settle outside.

Narendra Modi to visit Nepal on August 3 and 4: MEA

72-hour humanitarian truce by Israel and Hamas begins in Gaza

New York, Aug 01 (ANI): The unconditional 72-hour humanitarian ceasefire by Israel and Hamas has begun in Gaza. Israel and Hamas agreed to the ceasefire, with talks on a permanent truce set to begin in Cairo, according to a statement released by the United Nations (UN) and United States. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry released a joint statement on Thursday announcing the ceasefire and calling for all parties to _act with restraint until this humanitarian ceasefire begins, and to fully abide by their commitments during the ceasefire._ As the crisis in Gaza continues unabated, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Valerie Amos on Thursday urged the parties to protect civilians from the conflict that has resulted in thousands of casualties and caused widespread displacement and destruction.

Devotees offer milk to snakes to mark Nag Panchmi

Uttar Pradesh/ Madhya Pradesh, Aug 01 (ANI): Devotees thronged temples, offered and poured milk on snakes to celebrate Hindu festival, _Nag Panchami_ to honour serpent god on Friday. Devout Hindus in Allahabad city of Uttar Pradesh flocked temples of Hindu Lord Shiva and offered milk, water, flowers and fruits to serpents as a unique expression of devotion on the auspicious occasion. The festival is believed to bring prosperity and happiness, eradicating evil and hardships from people_s lives. Snake charmers lined the streets and attracted devotees to offer milk to snakes. Followers of Lord Shiva in Madhya Pradesh province also celebrated the festival with religious pageantry.

Natwar Singh talks about his controversial book, says no bitterness with anybody

New Delhi, Aug 01 (ANI): Talking about his book _One Life is Not Enough: An Autobiography_, Former Senior Bureaucrat Natwar Singh said that he has no bitterness for Congress or anybody else. He said that he started with the book in 2011 and it naturally takes time for a book to get completed. He said that the UPA had no foreign policy during its rule and that the prime minister did not visit any neighbouring countries. He also replied to Sonia Gandhi_s answer wherein she said that she will write a book too, and said that he is waiting for Gandhi_s book to come out. Kashmiri Pandits_ delegation meets Jitendra Singh over Yatra row

New Delhi, Aug 01 (ANI): A delegation of Kashmiri Pandits on Friday met Minister of State in Prime Minister_s Office Dr Jitendra Singh over the yatra row. Kashmiri Pandits in the US had earlier sought the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allowing the Kousar Nag religious yatra in the valley to proceed after the Jammu and Kashmir government rescinded the order permitting the event. Singh said that the delegation has given him a memorandum under the leadership of RP Singh and added that he will discuss the issue with Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

Hearing of National Herald Case adjourned till August 5

New Delhi, Aug 01 (ANI): The hearing of the National Herald Case on Friday has been adjourned till 5th August. BJP leader and Lawyer Subramanian Swamy said that he asked for the adjournment of case considering the fact that he was given the briefing of the accused quite late. Swamy added that the Court did not pass any order but only adjourned the hearing till August 5. He also said that he expected the Court to treat Congress President Sonia Gandhi as any other citizen and ask her to appear before the Court.

SC gives Subrata Roy 10 working days to sell properties for bail

New Delhi, Aug 01 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Friday has allowed Sahara Chief Subrata Roy to stay in Tihar Conference Room in order to negotiate to sell his properties for bail. Lawyer Gaurav Bhatia said that an IA was moved by Roy and 2 other applicants and the Court accepted the appeal and allowed Roy to stay for 10 working days in Conference Room where all the necessary facilities for interaction with buyers and clients are provided.
