Kerala introduces water taxis to boost backwater tourism

Kochi, Nov 14 (ANI): The tourism minister of Kerala, AP Anil Kumar, launched water taxis and hop-on hop-off boat services to increase the potential of backwaters for state tourism. First of its kind in India, water taxis and boats were flagged off by Kumar in Kochi recently. As Kerala is surrounded by waterways, the services have been launched with the view to ensure the “last-mile connectivity” to tourist destinations, and lure more and more tourists to Kerala backwaters. The hop-on and hop-off boats are air conditioned with seating accommodation for 25 passengers at a time and they will ply at regular intervals. One buying a day’s ticket can travel in it for any number of times within 24 hours. The passenger can get into the boat from any boat jetty and can step down at whichever destination he wants where the boat travels. Besides having a new experience one can also avoid road traffic congestion.

President Mukherjee inaugurates India International Trade Fair 2014

New Delhi, Nov 14 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday inaugurated the India International Trade Fair 2014 at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. Mukherjee complimented the ITPO for selecting women entrepreneurs as the theme of this fair. Business visitors will have the first five days of the trade fair, from November 14 to November 18 while general public will visit the trade fair from November 19 till November 27 between 9:30 am and 7:30 pm. The fair will close at 5:30 pm on November 27.

Congress supports Rahul Gandhi's attack on Modi's 'clean India campaign', BJP hits back

New Delhi, Nov 14 (ANI): Congress on Friday supported party Vice President Rahul Gandhi when he said that 'India is ruled by people who are angry'. Politicos condemn UP health department as doctor performs 42 sterilization operations in 2 hours

New Delhi, Nov 14 (ANI): Political leaders on Friday condemned state health department as doctor in government owned Primary Health Center in Nebua Naurangia village in Kushinagar performs 42 sterilization operations in a record two hours. BJP Spokesperson GVL Narasimha said that this has brought forth the deplorable conditions of health facilities in government health centers. Congress leader Rashid Alvi said that it is unfortunate that even after many deaths in similar case in Bilaspur, it is continued in UP. Meanwhile, BSP Spokesperson Sudhindra Bhadoria said that UP government is insensitive towards women and their health and this incident proves the same.

Politicos react after suspended TMC MP jailed in Saradha Scam attempts suicide

New Delhi, Nov 14 (ANI): Politicos reacted on Friday after suspended TMC MP Kunal Ghosh accused in the Saradha chit fund scam attempted suicide in the jail. BJP leader Siddharth Nath Singh said that it needs to be investigated whether it was a suicide attempt or some politically motivated attempt. BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said that Kunal Ghosh must give the names of the people involved in the Saradha chit fund scam. Modi govt launches Bal Swachhta Mission to mark 125th birth anniversary of Nehru

Mumbai/ New Delhi, Nov 14 (ANI): The Modi government on Friday launched a nationwide mission called Bal Swachhta Mission to mark the 125th birth anniversary of the country's first Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru. The mission was launched by Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi under which a cleanliness drive would be organized in schools across the country between 14th and 19th of this month. A series of functions including lecture, debate and symposium on the occasion will also be organized across the country. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also participated in a cleanliness drive in Mumbai on Friday. The 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' encourages people to sweep, remove garbage, debris and unauthorized encroachments from roads, markets and residential places.

Poll-bound Delhi hikes power tariff up to 7%, Congress slams BJP govt at centre

New Delhi, Nov 14 (ANI): In a major jolt to the poll bound Delhi, the power tariff in the national capital has been hiked by up to seven per cent by the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission and will come into effect from Saturday. The regulator hiked the tariff by levying surcharge heeding to the demands of the three private power distribution companies. Meanwhile, the Congress slammed the Modi government at the centre over the hike. The BJP, however, said that it is not responsible for the tariff hike but would try to talk to those responsible for it if they come to power in Delhi.

Saradha scam: Suspended Trinamool MP Kunal Ghosh attempts suicide in jail

Kolkata, Nov 14 (ANI): Suspended Trinamool MP Kunal Ghosh, an accused in the Saradha chit fund scam, attempted suicide late last night, said police official. He has been in Kolkata's Presidency Jail since he was arrested in November last year. The police say Ghosh took 58 sleeping pills and then informed jail officials that he had taken them. His stomach has reportedly been washed and he is out of danger but in a serious state. Ghosh was the chief of Saradha Group's media operations. State Prison Minister HA Safi said in a statement that Kunal Ghosh has access to 2-3 pills as his regular prescription and that he said he took pills at 2:30 am. Presently, he is undergoing treatment in SSKM Hospital.
