Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri review: Reel converted into film, Kartik's magic fails

Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday's Tu Meri Main Tera, Main Tera Tu Meri was released on Thursday, December 25, 2025.

TMMTMTTM is the story of a carefree, papa-ki-pari guy, Ray (Kartik), who is a wedding planner, and Rumi (Ananya), a sweet, innocent, published author struggling to find readers for her book.

Ray and Rumi meet at the airport as they embark on a trip to Croatia. Ray soon falls for Rumi, but she doesn't want to leave her aging father (Jackie Shroff), an ex-Army man, alone in Agra and move to the US with Ray after marriage.

The twist comes when Ray questions why it is always the girl who has to leave her house. What follows is drama, romance, emotions, and a Croatian itinerary woven into the narrative.

The film is already in troubled waters and facing backlash from social media users for ruining two songs, one being Saath Samundar Paar and the other featuring Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday dancing to Salman Khan–Kajol's Saajan Ji Ghar Aaye.

Ananya, who is often trolled for her acting and faces constant nepo-kid ire, this time saw the tables turn. It's not Ananya but Kartik Aaryan who is facing criticism—not just from critics but also from moviegoers.

With Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar overpowering and running strong for over three weeks, and several negative reviews pouring in for Kartik–Ananya's film, needless to say, the last film of 2025 has failed to strike a chord with the masses.

Karan Johar is known for creating magic in the romantic genre, and in this film, Kartik waits for his lady love against all odds.

The Eastern European locations add an adequate amount of vibe and aesthetic to the narrative. Though the film reminds many moviegoers of past films like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Hum Tum and others, it is an easy, breezy watch, not heavy on the head like Dhurandhar, but a light, entertaining movie.

Reasons to skip

The same old saga, a rehash and cut-copy-paste of previous Bollywood rom-coms. While Ananya's acting is bearable, Kartik failed miserably. Many compared him to Akshay Kumar, criticizing his loud dialogue delivery, and several felt he was overacting.

The cringe dance moves, Instagram trends, and reel-style choreography added to Bollywood songs made it feel like a reel converted into a film.

Ananya's costumes and unnecessary overexposure irked many netizens.

Many even felt that Karan indirectly took revenge on Kartik by casting him in this film, as Kartik is receiving more negative reviews than Ananya Panday.
