Actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay was sworn in as the 13th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday amid elaborate security arrangements and the presence of leading political figures, film personalities and industrialists at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai.
The swearing-in ceremony marked a major political milestone for Vijay and his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, which emerged as the single largest party in the recently concluded Tamil Nadu Assembly elections by securing 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly.
Several prominent personalities from the Tamil film industry attended the high-profile event, including actress Trisha Krishnan, who arrived at the venue along with her mother, Uma Krishnan. Trisha was seen interacting warmly with guests and members of Vijay's family before the ceremony commenced.
Dressed in a teal and gold saree paired with a cream blouse, the actress drew attention from fans and media personnel gathered outside the stadium. She was also seen greeting Vijay's mother, Shobha Chandrasekhar, in a cordial interaction that became one of the talking points at the venue.

Special seating arrangements had been made for distinguished guests attending the ceremony. Vijay's parents, veteran filmmaker S. A. Chandrasekhar and Shobha Chandrasekhar, were seated in the front row alongside Trisha and her mother.
Authorities enforced tight security measures in and around the stadium ahead of the event. Chennai city police intensified vehicle checks, deployed additional personnel and implemented strict access control protocols to ensure smooth conduct of the ceremony.
Vijay's rise to the Chief Minister's post comes after TVK secured crucial post-poll support from alliance partners, including the Indian National Congress, Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and the Indian Union Muslim League. With the backing of its allies, the Vijay-led coalition crossed the majority mark with the support of 120 MLAs.
The victory marks a significant shift in Tamil Nadu's political landscape, ending the long-standing alternating dominance of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in the state.

Along with Vijay, nine ministers were also expected to take oath as members of the new cabinet. Tamil Nadu Governor R. N. Ravi has directed the new Chief Minister to seek a vote of confidence in the Assembly on or before May 13, 2026.
Over the past few months, the duo's close friendship has frequently made headlines. Rumours linking the two stars have continued to circulate online, though neither Vijay nor Trisha has publicly reacted to the speculation. Their appearances together at public events, including the AGS family wedding reception, have only added fuel to the ongoing conversations.
