Mani Ratnam's dream to make a film on Kalki's historical novel Ponniyin Selvan has not died yet. The filmmaker looks like he has been reviving the project for some time now and the latest buzz is that he is now aiming to adapt the story to the present times.

Fresh with the success of multi-starrer Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, Mani Ratnam is now ready to bring big stars once again for his next film. As per the latest rumours, Thalapathy Vijay, Simbu and Chiyaan Vikram will star in the mega-budget project.

The filmmaker is believed to have approached the three actors and they have agreed to be part of the film inspired by Ponniyin Selvan. It is noted that Thalapathy had given his consent to act in the flick and Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu was supposed to act in the Tamil flick.

Unfortunately, the project was put on the back burner owing to budget issues. With the borders between Tamil and Telugu language movies blurring, a mega-budget can become a commercially-rewarding project if planned and executed well.

However, the official confirmation on the project is awaited.
