Amid reports of the presence of terrorists in the Udhampur and Rajouri districts of Jammu and Kashmir, Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Monday said that terrorism and all other forms of criminal activity will remain under strict vigil of the Union Territory's police force.

Addressing a gathering in Kathua after inaugurating the 14th Police Martyrs Memorial T20 Cricket Tournament, DGP Prabhat said that crimes ranging from drug trafficking and gangsterism to organised crime and militancy will be dealt with firmly. He asserted that all such activities will remain firmly in the police's sights.

He said the constant aim and objective of the Jammu and Kashmir Police is to stamp out all anti-national and anti-social activities from the Union Territory.

The DGP said that criminal networks—ranging from terror groups and their support structures to drug smugglers, gangsters, and mafia elements—are firmly on the radar of law enforcement agencies.

"Whether it is terrorism, drugs, gangsters or any other criminal activity, everything will remain under the police scanner," he said, adding that the primary objective of the police force is to completely eradicate anti-national and anti-social elements from Jammu and Kashmir.

Prabhat said the Jammu and Kashmir Police, in close coordination with other security agencies, is carrying out sustained and aggressive operations against terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), sympathisers, drug traffickers, and hawala operators. These coordinated actions, he said, are aimed at dismantling the entire terror ecosystem, including its financial and logistical support base.

He further said that drug trafficking and hawala rackets are being treated as serious national security threats, as proceeds from such illegal activities are often diverted to fund terror operations in the region.

Highlighting border security measures, the DGP said infiltration, exfiltration, drug smuggling, and drone-related activities originating from across the border are being effectively countered.

The DGP added that security preparedness is reviewed regularly at the highest level, with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chairing periodic meetings to assess the situation and operational outcomes. He said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also kept regularly informed about the security scenario and the progress made in curbing terrorism in the Union Territory.

Forces conduct surprise search operation in Srinagar

Srinagar Police on Monday carried out a surprise search operation in Maharaja Bazar and adjoining localities as part of a security inspection in the busy commercial area of the city. The operation was supported by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel and included anti-sabotage checks using sniffer dogs.

Officials said the teams searched several shops, shopping complexes, and storage spaces where merchandise is usually kept. Identity cards of shopkeepers and pedestrians were also checked as part of routine verification.

Police teams moved through inner lanes and commercial clusters of the market, inspecting goods stored in shops and basements to ensure that nothing suspicious was concealed.

According to officials, such searches are conducted periodically in crowded markets across Srinagar to maintain heightened security and ensure the safe movement of people, particularly during peak business hours.
