A teenager allegedly raped and killed an eight-year-old girl in Maharashtra's Satara district Monday, according to reports. The juvenile accused was reportedly a relative of the victim.

The 15-year-old was booked under sections 302 (murder), 376 (rape), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Juvenile Act, Press Trust of India quoted Satara police as saying. He was produced before a juvenile court Tuesday.

"He has confessed to raping and killing the girl, a second standard student, all within a span of 20 minutes," a senior police official said.

The boy allegedly raped the girl at a bungalow in Panchgani, where his mother was a caretaker. The victim's body was found in a water tank.
