Vijay Deverakonda's Taxiwala (Taxiwaala) has received decent opening at the worldwide box office on the first day and made better collection than mass maharaja Ravi Teja's Amar Akbar Anthony (AAA).
Taxiwala is a small budget film, but young sensation actor Vijay Devarakonda's association and its intriguing promos have made it one of the most-awaited Telugu movies of 2018. But since it clashed with Amar Akar Anthony, the makers delayed its release by a day, as they were sceptic about its opening at the worldwide box office.
Some people predicted that Amar Akbar Anthony might not allow Taxiwala to get a good opening at box office. The hype surrounding Taxiwala helped it register good advance booking for its opening day. But its booking increased after the Ravi Teja starrer got negative reviews and some screens sold out all tickets 12 hours before it screened.
Taxiwala started with a bang and registered wonderful response in the early morning shows. Its occupancy ranged between 60 and 70 percent and some theatres ran to packed houses. The movie was successful in striking a chord with the film goers and the word of mouth boosted its business in the later shows on its opening day.
As per early estimates, the Vijay Devarakonda starrer has collected Rs 6 crore in the Telugu states, Rs 2 crore in the US and around Rs 4 crore in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and other parts of the globe. Taxiwala has collected approximately Rs 10+ crore at the worldwide box office on the first day.
Taxiwala has beaten the opening day collection of Amar Akbar Anthony, which collected Rs 6.70 crore gross at the worldwide box office on the first day. But the movie has failed to beat the records of his recent releases Geetha Govindam (Rs 16.40 crore gross) and Nota (Rs 14 crore gross).
Here is the table detailing the comparative picture of the area-wise earnings of Taxiwala (TW), Nota and Geeta Govindam (GG). The numbers are based on various reports and they may vary from the actual ones. All the figures are in rupees and crore.
