Actor and political leader Vijay, who cast his vote at the Neelankarai polling station in Chennai, on Thursday urged the Election Commission of India to arrange additional transport for voters.
In a letter to the poll body, Vijay highlighted that thousands of voters were stranded at bus terminals in Chennai and other cities across Tamil Nadu due to a shortage of public transport. He said many people who had travelled from different parts of the state, other states, and even abroad to cast their votes were unable to reach polling booths.
He attributed the situation to the large-scale requisitioning of buses and vehicles for election duty without adequate alternative arrangements for the public. Vijay urged authorities to immediately deploy additional government buses, shuttles, and other vehicles exclusively to ferry voters from transit points to polling stations.
Meanwhile, several prominent personalities exercised their franchise across the state. Vijay's parents, S. A. Chandrasekhar and Shoba Chandrasekhar, cast their votes in Adyar. Directors H. Vinoth, Pa. Ranjith, and Atlee also participated in the polling process.
Among film stars, Rajinikanth voted along with his daughter Soundarya Rajinikanth, while Kamal Haasan cast his vote with his daughter Shruti Haasan.
Actor Trisha Krishnan cast her vote at St. Francis Xavier Middle School in Abiramapuram, Chennai, around 11 a.m., accompanied by her mother, Uma. After completing the voting process, she briefly interacted with the media and posed for photographs before leaving the venue.
Her appearance drew attention on social media, amid ongoing discussions about her personal life and career. Several other actors, including Sivakarthikeyan, were also seen at polling booths across the city, contributing to an active and enthusiastic voter turnout among the film fraternity.
