A joint US-Afghan patrol near Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan was hit by a suicide bomb attack by the Taliban on Monday, and at least six soldiers were killed.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the latest attack via Twitter, Reuters reported.

A suicide bomber attacked the patrol unit on a motorbike. At least six foreign troops were killed, NATO confirmed. Six other people were also injured in the attack.

Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid claimed that nearly 20 US soldiers were killed.

The Bagram air base is one of the largest US military bases in Afghanistan.

NATO is reportedly investigating Monday's blast.

Last month, militants had attacked the NATO-led Resolute Support (RS) mission in the same area in the vicinity of the Bagram air base, killing one service member.
