Director RJ Balaji has revealed that his highly anticipated Tamil movie Karuppu will release in theaters this summer after the elections. In a recent interview, RJ Balaji said that his team is intentionally not promoting Karuppu much because they want the word of mouth to help it do well.
The director said, "The film is completed and ready for release. Before the release, if we create too much hype and it doesn't meet expectations, people will heavily criticize it these days."
Meanwhile, he revealed that it would hit the screens after the election. He said, "I want to be honest. Karuppu will be very good. Just like the Valimai update, people have been asking for a Karuppu update for the past year. The film will release in the summer, after the elections. Whenever it releases, it will be a movie that can be watched with the whole family. It will entertain all of you."
Karuppu is an action drama film, which is produced by Dream Warrior Pictures. Besides direction, RJ Balaji has co-written the screenplay with Ashwin Ravichandran, Rahul Raj, TS Gopi Krishnan and Karan Aravind Kumar. Suriya and Trisha Krishnan are playing the lead roles in the movie. Indrans, Natty Subramaniam, Swasika, Sshivada, Supreeth Reddy, and Yogi Babu are in the supporting cast.
Karuppu is the 45th movie of Suriya. The film was officially announced in October 2024 under the tentative title Suriya 45. The shooting commenced in Pollachi in November 2024. The official title was announced in June 2025. Sai Abhyankkar has composed the music for the movie, while GK Vishnu and R Kalaivanan handled cinematography and editing, respectively.
