Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi underwent a routine medical check-up at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on Wednesday and has since returned home, the Congress party said, clarifying earlier reports that suggested she had been admitted for a minor surgical procedure.
"Smt Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson of the CPP, had a routine medical check-up and is now back home," Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said in a brief statement.
The 79-year-old Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan has faced several health-related issues in recent years and has undergone treatment multiple times at hospitals in Delhi and elsewhere.
Earlier in March this year, Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital after complaining of uneasiness and fever. The hospital had stated that she was undergoing treatment for a systemic infection, while doctors conducted investigations for possible stomach and urinary tract infections.
Her children, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, were present at the hospital during her stay.
Rahul Gandhi had also cancelled his scheduled visit to Kerala at the time due to concerns over his mother's health. Addressing a rally virtually from New Delhi, he had said he stayed back as a son worried about his mother's condition.
"I would have liked to come here, but I was forced to stay in today and was unable to come. Yesterday, my mother was hospitalised and I, as a son, was quite worried about her," Rahul Gandhi had said.

Earlier in January, Sonia Gandhi was hospitalised due to respiratory discomfort. Doctors had attributed her condition to a mild aggravation of bronchial asthma caused by Delhi's winter conditions and rising pollution levels.
In June last year, the veteran Congress leader was admitted for stomach-related issues and kept under observation in the gastro department. During the same month, she was also admitted to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Himachal Pradesh's Shimla.
A five-time Lok Sabha MP before moving to the Rajya Sabha, Sonia Gandhi has remained one of the Congress party's most influential leaders for over two decades. She has served two terms as Congress president and continues to play a key role in the party's organisational and political affairs.
