In a shocking surveillance video that is doing the rounds on social media from the US, a teenager is seen chewing off his finger prints and flesh in an attempt to avoid being fingerprinted by the police.

Twenty-year-old Kenzo Roberts from Florida was arrested by detectives at State Road 82 on Thursday, 30 July, after they found him with a 2015 Mercedes that was earlier reported stolen.

"It all started with a traffic stop on State Road 82. Detectives spotted a 2015 Mercedes which had been reported stolen. As Roberts was being detained in the back of the patrol vehicle, he attempted to remove his own fingerprints by chewing them off and rubbing them against the cage," Lee County Sheriff's Office posted on Facebook.

However, his attempt failed as the scanner quickly identified him, who was using a fraudulent ID, three fraudulent credit cards and a concealed firearm.

Following this, Roberts was arrested on criminal charges, including "possession of a counterfeit credit card (3X), grand theft auto, possession of a concealed firearm, possession of similitude of a driver's licence, driving while licence suspended and false identification given to law enforcement."

He remains in custody on a $220,000 bond.
