Spanish actress Penelope Cruz has dethroned last year's winner actress Scarlett Johansson to claim this year's "Sexiest Woman Alive" title.

Esquire, the men's lifestyle magazine, has given this year's "Sexiest Woman Alive" title to the 40-year-old Spanish actress.

Cruz has joined the list with the previous year's winners, which include American actress Johansson, actress Mila Kunis, Barbados-born pop star Rihanna, actress Angelina Jolie, actress Halle Berry and South African actress Charlize Theron among others.

Cruz covers the November issue of the men's magazine after being named as the sexiest woman of 2014.

In her interview with the magazine, Cruz said that she doesn't feel like the sexiest woman alive, in fact, she feels like a mother who doesn't get enough sleep.

"Assume a virtue, if you have it not," Cruz told Esquire, quoting Hamlet.

Cruz, who has two children with husband Javier Bardem, has become the 11th woman to win the title.

The "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" actress in her interview with the magazine also talked about her attraction towards drama.

"I've made it hard for me sometimes, especially in my teens and twenties. I had an attraction to drama. Most of us have that, especially if you are an artist—you feel like you are tempted to explore the darkness. I could not be less interested now. For me, the most attractive, charming, cool, fun, interesting thing—how could I call it? A plan," she told the magazine.

The actress revealed about her love towards acting, but also declined to comment on her relationship with husband and her motherhood. "That is for us," she said.

Cruz, who won the Academy Award for supporting actress for her performance in Woody Allen's "Vicky Cristina Barcelona", shot to fame in 2001 with Hollywood movies "Vanilla Sky" and "Blow".

She will be next seen in the upcoming Spanish-language drama "Ma Ma."
