Amazing video footage has been released showing the Great Barrief Reef from a turtles perspective, after a GoPro camera was attached to a sea turtles shell.

Filmed by WWF Australia, the camera attached to the reptiles back shows various species in the reef just off the coast of Queensland, Australia.

The video was made as part of a project by WWF Australia to chart how pollution is affecting the turtles that inhabit the reef.

In a post accompanying the video, WWF Australia stated:

As part of that project, the opportunity arose to very carefully fit a small GoPro camera to a turtle, to better understand the post-release behaviour of tagged green turtles. The result is this amazing video.

The video comes as United Nations heritage body Unesco voted on 1 July not to put Australias Great Barrier Reef on its world danger list.

The Great Barrier Reef is currently under threat from ocean acidification and coral bleaching, brought about through CO2 emissions. Localised threats such as overfishing, nutrient run-off, and dredging reduces the reefs ability to cope with the bleaching and acidification.
