Samsung's new Gear S2, which was teased at the end of Galaxy Note 5 launch event in August, has been officially unveiled.
"For the past several years, Samsung has pioneered and advanced the wearables category, bringing brave new concepts to the smart wearables market," said JK Shin, CEO and Head of Samsung's IT & Mobile Business.
"The Samsung Gear S2 reflects Samsung's most progressive innovation. It is the perfect complement for any occasion, easily taking you from day to night, from work to workout—and ensuring that you get more out of every moment in your day, by making it smarter and ultimately more personal and fun."
The new Samsung smart-wearable comes in three variants – one original Gear S2, S2 Classic and S2 3G with dedicated SIM slot for standalone communication purpose.
Key difference between Gear S2 and S2 Classic is that the former comes in a dark gray case with a dark gray band and silver case with a white band, whereas the latter is slimmer in size and ships with black case with leather band.
Both Gear S2 and S2 Classic sport 1.2-inch Circular super AMOLED display and run on Samsung's proprietary Tizen OS backed by 1.0GHz dual-core CPU, 512MB RAM, 4GB storage and 250 mAh battery, which can power the device for two to three days under mixed usage.
On the other hand, Gear S2 3G too houses almost same internal hardware except the battery. It ships with bigger 300 mAh capacity battery so it has more juice to act as a standalone communication device.
All three Samsung smartwatches boasts IP68 water-and-dust resistant certifications, health-kit apps such heart-rate sensor, S Health Nike+Running and also feature NFC, Bluetooth v4.1, Wi-Fi based connectivity features.
So far, the company has not revealed the price and availability details of the new Gear S2 devices, but they will be showcased at the upcoming IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin) 2015.
Stay tuned for more updates.
