Top PC maker Lenovo has launched a new smartphone, dubbed as Phab Plus, in China.
The new Lenovo Phab Plus boasts a massive 6.8-inch full HD display, blurring the line between the smartphone and tablet (7.0-inch) category. However, we don't mean the device won't appeal to many consumers.
We know that the reining smartphone maker, Samsung, also faced similar criticism in 2011 with its first generation Galaxy Note, but the company was proved wrong. Since then, it has become a niche category. It was also ridiculed by arch-rival Apple (co-founder Steve Jobs) for the size of the device. Meanwhile, Apple brought 5.5-inch-based iPhone 6 Plus in 2014. Similarly, Lenovo is certain to attract phablet buyers, who like to use the device as an entertainment companion for long-distance travelling.
Other stipulated features of Lenovo Phab Plus include Android 5.0 Lollipop OS, Snapdragon 615 Octa-core processor, 2GB RAM, 32GB inbuilt storage, 13mp camera on the rear-side, a 5mp snapper at the front and a 3500 mAh battery.
Lenovo Phab Plus Price Details:
The new Phab Plus has been released in China for ¥2599 Yuan (around $408/€364/Rs 27,060) and will be available in Elegant Silver (Platinum), Neon Pink, Metallic Blue and Metallic Gray colour variants, reported Gadget Blaze.
Will Lenovo Phab Plus Land in India?
Emerging markets like India and China are two of the biggest phablet markets in the world. As per IDC's (International Data Corporation) recent research study, devices with 5.5-inch to 7.0-inch will drive the next wave of smartphone sales in the next few years.
"Smartphones featuring display sizes from 5.5 inches to 6 inches are forecast to grow 84% in 2015 compared to last year, while devices featuring 5"-7" screens will make up over 71% of shipments by 2019," says IDC report.
If aggressively priced, Lenovo Phab Plus will certainly sway the Indian buyers. The company has received overwhelming response to both the 5.5-inch screen-based A7000 and the recent K3 Note; it won't be a surprise if Lenovo releases the new Phab Plus in India sooner or later.
