Actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu has reportedly walked out of actor Dhanush's upcoming movie "Vada Chennai." Vetrimaaran is set to replace her with actress Amala Paul.

"Vada Chennai" is a film based on Tamil gangsters and is being produced as a trilogy. Samantha was roped in to play the female lead opposite Dhanush in the film but the actress is said to have opted out , weeks after it went on floors. It was rumoured that she could not adjust her dates for the film due to her impending marriage with her rumoured boyfriend Naga Chaitanya.

But industry sources say Samantha has no plans of getting married this year and will continue acting in projects she had signed. Samantha decided to walk out of "Vada Chennai" because the trilogy is being made over two years and she could not allot bulk dates for the film.

Samantha has earlier worked with Dhanush in director Velraj's 2015 family drama film "Thanga Magan," which was a big hit at the box office. The chemistry between the two was one of the major factors for the success of the movie. The couple were expected to recreate their magical chemistry in "Vada Chennai."

In his quest for a suitable replacement for Samantha, director Vetrimaaran reportedly approached Amala Paul and narrated the story of "Vada Chennai". The actress was said to be impressed with it and agreed to play the heroine's role alongside Dhanush in "Vada Chennai."

"Vada Chennai" was announced in November 2011 but was temporarily shelved for some reasons. The project was revisited with a new cast in May 2015 and production began in June 2016. The movie is being produced by A Subaskaran, Dhanush and Vetrimaaran under the banners Lyca Productions, Wunderbar Films and Grass Root Film Company.

"Vada Chennai", the shooting of which began on June 21, will be the third combo movie of Dhanush and Vetrimaaran after "Polladhavan" and "Aadukalam." Dhanush tweeted on Jun 21: "#vadachennai - trilogy. Started shooting for part 1 today. director of polladhavan, aadukalam @VetriMaaran .bless us."
