Actor Salman Khan has been slammed on social media for suggesting that only dialogue is the solution for the problems that exist between India and Pakistan. His statement became public within hours of several terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir and ceasefire violations by Pakistan that took place in along the Line of Control (LoC).

During promotions for his upcoming film Tubelight, Salman Khan said: "Those who order wars should be sent to the forefront and be told that you fight first. Their hands and feet will tremble. The war will be over in a day. Then they will sit across the table and talk." He went on to add that war is no solution, and advocated for dialogues between India and Pakistan so there is peace.

Tubelight, which releases on June 25, is a story that deals with separation brought about by the Indo-China war of 1965. The film — directed by Kabir Khan and based on the Hollywood movie Little Boy — apparently delivers a message of peace.

Twitterati was quick to react to the statement. Here are some of the reactions. Fair warning: Some of these tweets contain strong language.

Salman Khan has acted alongside Chinese actor Zhu Zhu in the film, which also stars his brother Sohail Khan. It is his next feature film following the superhit Sultan in 2016.
