Sachin: A Billion Dreams opened to a huge response on Friday, May 26, and made a huge collection at the Indian box office on its first day. Based on cricketer Sachin Tendulkar's life, the movie has turned out to be the first docudrama to collect a massive figure on its opening day. 

Released in over 2,400 screens in India, Sachin: A Billion Dreams opened to packed theatres in several parts of the country on its first day. It collected Rs 8.40 crore at the domestic box office on its opening day. "Considering it's a docu-drama, #SachinABillionDreams opens IMPRESSIVELY... Fri ₹ 8.40 cr. India biz [Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, English]," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

It is a first docudrama that has received such a massive response from the Indian audience in the mainstream cinema. Other docudramas like Gulabi Gang (2014) and Beyond Bollywood had failed at the box office.
