Popular playback singer S Janaki has become the latest victim of death hoax on social media. On Thursday, the death rumours started doing the rounds on cyber space after the legendary musician announced her retirement from singing. However, the news has been misinterpreted by many netizens who have been sharing condolence messages.
Singer SP Balasubrahmanyam, a close friend of Janaki, has also cleared the air around the rumours. "Since this morning lots of rumours about Smt. S. Janaki, the Nightingale's health condition. All fake. I just talked to her. She is hale and healthy better than ever. Spread the good news.I dont know how some idiots do this mischief. Sadistic *^#@$÷=?. Long live the queen of Melody [sic]," he posted on his Facebook page.

Janaki, who has rendered her voice for more than 48,000 songs in a career spanning 60 years in Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Hindi and Odiya, among others, has decided to call it quits with a Malayalam song.
The Nightingale of the South has sung a lullaby in the upcoming Malayalam movie 10 Kalpanakal that stars Anoop Menon and Meera Jasmine in the lead.
"It will be my final song. I will not be recording anymore nor will I be singing at any functions," the singer was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
The 78-year-old singer, who is bidding goodbye to the profession, has decided to relax in her retirement life. Janaki started her career with Tamil movie Vidhiyin Vilayattu in 1957. She is the recipient of four National Awards and 32 state film awards, in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Oriya.
