"I've been looking forward to it since I saw it. I was like, 'Oh, my God, this is so cool.' So it's just something that, as a player, is something that you would dream of, to play Roger Federer," the New York Times reported Williams as saying.

Federer echoed similar sentiments saying this might perhaps be the only meeting between the two legends.

"It's very exciting for both of us. I hope that a lot of tennis fans are going to tune in and watch it, because it's going to be one time and probably never again, in this kind of a competition."

"We're both fierce competitors and we always want to win. We try our best," Federer added.

Williams and Federer are perhaps the greatest tennis players in the history of the game and hold the record for winning the most number of grand slam titles for any man and woman in the open era. Federer has 20 men's singles grand slam victories and Williams has won 23 grand slams.

The Swiss and the American have won titles on the same court on the same weekend eight times with the first of them being in 2003 and the final one coming in 2017.
