With the festive season just around the corner, auto makers like Renault and Ford are rolling up their sleeves to launch new cars in the Indian market.

The biggest competition is in the small car segment where the Renault is gearing up for the launch of its SUV-like small car Kwid and Ford is getting ready with its new Figo hatchback.

Here is a look at the new Renault Kwid, which is expected to hit showrooms anytime from now. Although the launch details of Kwid are not known yet, a recent report had hinted at an October launch.

Renault Kwid, an entry level vehicle from the French auto maker to compete with the likes of Maruti Alto and Hyundai Eon, is built on the latest CMF-A platform co-developed by Renault and Nissan. Unveiled in May, Kwid, a global hatchback, is expected to come to the Indian market with more than 90 localisations.

Renault Kwid will draw power from 799cc 3-cylinder petrol motor, which is tuned to churn out 54PS and a peak torque of 72Nm. The model is expected to offer the best-in class mileage at 25.17kmpl. As for transmissions, Kwid is likely to include both manual and automated manual transmission (AMT) options. The Kwid is also rumoured to include a 1.0-litre petrol engine in its engine line-up later this year.

 Variants

Renault Kwid, a small hatch designed like an SUV is expected to be launched in four variants -- Standard, RxE, RxL and RxT. From what we hear, the new small car in the Indian market will be available in five exterior body shades of Fiery Red, Ice Cool White, Planet Grey, Moonlight Silver and Outback Bronze.

In terms of dimensions, Renault Kwid measures 3679mm long, 1579mm tall and 1471mm wide. It has an impressive wheelbase of 2422mm with class leading ground clearance of 180 mm and a boot capacity of 300 litre.

Features

Renault Kwid will come with the segment's first ever touchscreen Media-Nav Navigation System with a seven-inch display, digital instrument console, alloy wheels, chrome door handles, chrome touched tail lights, roof rails and side body cladding.

Price

The bookings for the Kwid are open in the country for Rs 5,000 and the model will be priced in the brackets of Rs 3 lakh to Rs 4 lakh.

Accessory list

Renault is expected to release six accessory packs for Kwid -- Smart Chrome, Intense Chrome, Luxury pack, Outdoor pack, Basic pack and Essential Pack.

While the exterior accessories of new Kwid is likely to include bumper corner protector, exhaust finishers, fog light enclosure, door handles, window visors, tail lights, boot lid, alloy wheels, crossover-like roof racks and side moulding, the cabin accessories of Kwid is expected to have ambient lighting, fancy floor mats, seat cover, steering wheel cover and gear-shift chrome bezel.
