Ravi Shastri, who was appointed as the interim coach of Team India sometime ago, is unsure about his future with the side. He says that he will discuss about his tenure with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after the national team's tour of Bangladesh, which is sedhuled to start from Wednesday 10 June.
"...my job is the Bangladesh tour. And after that we'll have to sit and talk. I am not thinking anything ahead. I am thinking Bangladesh, and that's it," Shastri told Espn Cricinfo on Saturday.
The newly constituted BCCI advisory committee, comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, met board president Jagmohan Dalmiya and secretary Anurag Thakur recently following which the latter announced the name of Shastri as the team director for the Bangladesh tour.
Recently, Indian Test captain Virat Kohli had spoken very highly about Shastri and said that he should stay with the team for a longer period. He said it will boost the team's confidence.
"It is nice to hear what Virat said, but I must compliment the entire coaching staff. The coaching bunch we have are experienced people. When it comes to Virat, he is outspoken, he is straight. What you see is what you will get with him. That is the kind of mindset that is spreading within the team as well. It is an honest bunch.
"Apart from Virat being outstanding, I thought the Test series (in Australia) was the catalyst. Even today, 80% of people who know their cricket say they enjoyed watching the Test series," Shastri said in reply to Kohli's comment in the recent past.
Before Team India leaves for Bangladesh, Shastri met the reporters at a press conference in Kolkata. He hoped that he would retain the post of team director for a longer period. He also said that Team India does not need any more coaches as they already have three of them.
"We have got three coaches, we don't need another coach. I will double up as head coach, if need be, so there is no issue whatsoever. When we come back from Bangladesh, I will sit with them (the BCCI) and decide. I don't rule out anything. I might be there much longer than what you think," said Shastri at the press conference.
