Ranveer Singh was back on the big silver screen after a long time, and he swept everybody off their feet with his stellar performance. In the movies, every actor has their hits and misses. For a while now, Ranveer's films have not doing the best when it came to box office numbers or impressing the critics; however, Aditya Dhar's 'Dhurandhar' has changed everything for him. He is back to being the talk of the town, with the audience gushing over him and how. Don 3 was supposedly Ranveer's next big film in the pipeline. The film, which has been creating quite a stir with actresses exiting the film, is back in headline, this time because there is news coming in of Ranveer's reported exit.
In November this year, Farhan Akhtar publicly spoke about the works for Don 3 beginning in 2026, even though the film had been announced long back in 2023. However, in a turn of events, as is reported by several media organisations, Ranveer has backed out of the project, and thus he will no longer be a part of the celebrated franchise. There are multiple aspects to why the actor chose to drop the film.
A source revealed to Mid-Day that one of the key reasons for Ranveer to exit the project was Dhurandhar and its sequel. The source mentioned, "Given Dhurandhar's wild success, filmmaker Aditya Dhar and everyone involved want to make the second part grander. For this, Ranveer will be required to shoot some additional portions in early 2026. After that is wrapped, the actor wants to turn his attention to Pralay, his zombie thriller with director Jai Mehta, as that remains a largely untapped genre in Hindi cinema.
Talks about Don 3's dates were going on for months. At some point, both the actor and the filmmaker needed clarity. The actor also indicated a hike in his remuneration after Dhurandhar's success, which did not align with Don 3's budget. The parting of ways was amicable, albeit inevitable.
Mid-Day also reported the source, mentioning, "Following the meeting, by Saturday, December 20, it was clear that the collaboration would not move forward. On December 22, Ritesh called for a meeting with all the department heads who were deep in pre-production. They were informed of Singh's exit, and that the February shooting schedule was officially pushed."
On the other hand, Pinkvilla reported that Ranveer has different priorities after the success of Dhurandhar. The actor now wants different things and is very clear about the kinds of films he would like to work on.
A source revealed to the organisation, "He is keen to collaborate with filmmakers like Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Lokesh Kanagaraj, and Atlee, and at the same time, he doesn't want to be seen in back-to-back gangster films, especially since Dhurandhar is already established in that space."
Till now, there has been no confirmation about the exit, either from Ranveer Singh or Excel Productions, which includes Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. Don 3 has faced quite a few hurdles in its way, starting from being criticised for not having Shah Rukh Khan on board to actresses quitting the film, and now this.
