Despite negative reviews from critics, Shahid Kapoor's latest film "R... Rajkumar" had a rocking start on Friday. The masala entertainer has performed better than last week's release "Bullett Raja".

"R... Rajkumar" starring Shahid and Sonakshi in the lead has managed to earn around ₹9.5 crore on the opening day from Indian markets, according to Koimoi.com. According to Bollywood Hungama, the action film has raked in ₹10.20 crore on Friday. Saif Ali Khan and Sonakshi starrer had earned ₹7.5 crore on opening day.

With ₹9.5 crore "R... Rajkumar" has become Shahid's biggest opener till date. His last film "Phata Poster Nikla Hero" also had a decent start but the same was not reflected in box office earnings. The first Friday collection of "Phata Poster Nikla Hero" was around ₹6 crore.

Being a non-holiday release, the first day collection of "R... Rajkumar" is comparatively good.

Circuits like Mumbai, CP Berar, CI, Rajasthan and Bihar have performed extremely well, but Delhi, UP, Punjab did not fare well.

Prabhu Deva's directorial action romantic film opened to 50 percent occupancy in India at several circuits. Released along with two other films, "R... Rajkumar" had a decent opening.

Looking at the overall performance, the film had a rocking start, but it remains to be seen whether the film will maintain the same momentum at the box office during the weekend or it will fall.

The masala entertainer film which was slammed by critics calling it one of the worst films of the year has impressed audiences in several circuits in India.

While critics have given zero to two stars in their reviews, moviegoers and Shahid's fans have taken to Twitter to praise the film.

The romantic comedy film was earlier titled as "Rambo Rajkumar" but due to copyright issues the makers changed the name to "R...Rajkumar". The film also features Sonu Sood, Ashish Vidyarthi, Mukul Dev and Asrani in important roles.
