Barely a year after a high resolution MMS featuring two Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) hostellers in an uncompromising positions hit the headlines, Delhi's most prestigious JNU is hit by another pornographic MMS scandal.
The Narmada Hostel authorities were reportedly informed of the video clip that had been circulating among the students residing there. Surprisingly, the informant, who went by the name of 'Sonu Dahiya', turned out to be the person in the video clip, Daily Bhaskar reported.
'Sonu Dahiya', whose true identity is undisclosed, was doing M.Phil in Sanskrit at JNU. With the help of a PhD student, Dahiya created a video of himself and his girlfriend getting intimate with each other. After accidentally misplacing his cellphone, Dahiya called the hostel warden's office to inform about the inappropriate MMS being circulated among students.
The hostel and campus authorities summoned Dahiya for interrogation in an emergency meeting after some students reported that an M.Phil Sanskrit student is nicknamed as "Sonu". Dahiya eventually admitted his guilt on making the clip and said that it was out of panic that he informed hostel officials, the website said.
According to the Times of India, three students have been suspended on Friday following their alleged involvement in the scandal. It was not known if Dahiya and his fellow accomplice were amongst those suspended.
S K Sopory, JNU Vice chancellor, confirmed that the suspension had indeed taken place. "I can't say anything more as I am travelling and the details are not available with me. But yes, a few students have been suspended," he told the Times of India.
Meanwhile, university officials have expressed disapproval on the matter, as the scandal can mar the reputation of the institution.
"If such things keep happening, it will malign the university. Action should be taken and such students should be immediately thrown out of the campus," Ravi Prakash Singh, JNU students union general secretary, said.
This isn't the first time that JNU had witnessed such scandals. The elite institution had come under the media spotlight in April last year following the circulation of a high resolution MMS featuring two JNU hostellers in an uncompromising positions. The duo involved was reportedly studying at the School of Languages, and the girl had allegedly left the university prior to finishing her studies.
