Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm greetings on the occasion of Gudi Padwa to the people of Maharashtra and Goa, marking the beginning of the Hindu New Year with a message of hope, renewal and progress.
In a written note, he described the festival as a sacred occasion that brings the promise of new beginnings. He said Gudi Padwa symbolises victory, prosperity and optimism—values that continue to guide the nation forward. Highlighting its deeper significance, he noted the festival's strong cultural and historical roots, adding that it represents the triumph of righteousness over adversity and is closely linked to the arrival of spring, a season of rejuvenation and growth.
The Prime Minister also reflected on how such traditions act as anchors in a rapidly changing world, reminding people of their roots and shared values. He emphasised that these cultural markers play an important role in strengthening collective identity and unity.
Urging citizens to carry the spirit of the festival throughout the year, he called for renewed determination and a clear sense of purpose. He linked the essence of Gudi Padwa to India's journey towards progress and self-reliance, noting that its values are especially relevant today. He also wished people happiness, good health and prosperity, expressing hope that the New Year would bring positive change across communities.
Meanwhile, Ugadi was celebrated with great enthusiasm across Karnataka. Prime Minister Modi extended his greetings on this occasion as well, highlighting the joy of spring and the sense of new energy it brings.

In his message, he said Ugadi marks a time of renewal and optimism, when nature reflects fresh beginnings. He noted that farmers prepare for a new agricultural cycle with hope and that the festival encourages people to embrace life in all its flavours. Referring to the traditional bitter-sweet dishes, he said they symbolise the need to face challenges with courage and accept success with gratitude.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the blend of neem and jaggery reflects life's mix of joy and sorrow, urging people to move forward with hope and positivity. Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar described Ugadi as a time for renewal, fresh aspirations and optimism, wishing peace, happiness and good health for all.
