Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer "Phantom" opening day box office collection is lower than Ajay Devgn-Tabu starrer "Drishyam". The action drama, which opened to above average reviews, minted Rs 8.46 crore on first Friday at the domestic box office.

The film had an average start, but the ticket sales at the box office picked once the reviews started pouring in. The occupancy in the evening and night shows were better than morning and afternoon shows.

However, the film failed to take a strong hold at the box office and its opening day collection of is the 11th highest of 2015.

"#Phantom Fri ₹ 8.46 cr. India biz... Biz picked up in evening/night shows," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

Nevertheless, the film is expected to show good turnout during weekends due to festive season. Saturday (29 August) is partial holiday across the country due to Raksha Bandhan and hence, the second day box office collection of "Phantom" is expected to be better than opening day.

The action drama, directed by Kabir Khan, opened well in Mumbai, Bangalore and other cities, but its collection was affected in Gujarat due to bandh and violence. Even from the CP-CI, Rajasthan circuits the film received poor response, but if the ticket sales picks up on Saturday and Sunday, the film will enjoy a good opening weekend in India.
