A major controversy has erupted in the ongoing Jammu and Kashmir Champions League after a batsman was spotted wearing a helmet bearing the Palestinian flag during a match in Jammu.
Amid the controversy, the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) clarified that the ongoing tournament is not recognised by the association.
The incident occurred during a match between Jammu and Kashmir 11 Kings and Jammu Trailblazers on Wednesday. Cricketer Furqan Bhat walked out to bat wearing a helmet featuring the Palestinian flag. As soon as visuals from the match surfaced on social media, the video went viral, triggering widespread debate and prompting swift action by the police.
Cricket-related videos usually go viral due to spectacular shots, catches, or brilliant bowling performances. At times, on-field altercations also draw attention. However, this incident drew notice for entirely different reasons.
Following the viral video, the Jammu and Kashmir Police swung into action and summoned the player for questioning. According to reports, Furqan Bhat was called to the Domana Police Station to explain the circumstances and intent behind wearing the helmet. Officials are examining whether any rules or laws were violated.

The controversy widened after police also summoned the organisers of the Jammu and Kashmir Champions League. Investigators are seeking clarification on how the helmet was permitted on the field and whether proper checks were conducted before the match.
With the issue gaining traction, the entire league has come under the scanner of Jammu Rural Police. Officials are verifying all relevant details and examining the sequence of events that led to the incident. Police sources said a thorough probe is underway, and all individuals connected with the event are likely to be questioned to establish a clear picture.
Meanwhile, Brigadier (Retd.) Anil Gupta, Member (Administration) of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association, reiterated that the league is not recognised by the JKCA.
This is the second cricket league from Jammu and Kashmir to come under scrutiny in recent months. Earlier, organisers of the privately run Indian Heaven Premier League (IHPL) allegedly fled Srinagar on November 1 after duping players, match officials, broadcasters, and hoteliers.

Pakistani batsman Azam Khan also did something similar when he displayed the Palestinian flag on his bat during a match against Karachi Whites in the National T20 tournament. The match referee warned Azam, as this was a violation of the ICC Code of Conduct. When Azam did not comply, he was fined.
