Capcom is joining forces with Marza Animation Planet for the next feature-film length CG Resident Evil film slated for a 2017 worldwide release. This new CG film will join 2008's Resident Evil: Degeneration and 2012's Resident Evil: Damnation.
According to Inside, filmmaker Takashi Shimizu (creator of Ju-on) will be the executive producer, Takanori Tsujimoto is directing, and Makoto Fukami, a scribe for Psycho-Pass, is writing the script.
There have been previous Resident Evil CG movies, but this is a complete reboot, reports kotaku.com, and this movie will feature the characters Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield, and Rebecca Chambers. More news on this is in the pipeline.
Meanwhile, apart from the CG film, with five feature films released otherwise, the Resident Evil film series is the highest grossing film series to be based on video games of all time, having grossed US$915 million worldwide. It is set to conclude in January 2017, with a sixth film, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, written and directed by Anderson.
digitaltrends.com had, in April 2014, cited Anderson speaking at the Beijing International Film Festival about the upcoming sixth installment of the franchise. He indicated that Chinese actress Bingbing Li will return as Ada Wong after her debut in 2012's Resident Evil: Retribution. Milla Jovovich is also said to be starring in this film again as zombie slayer Alice.
Sony Pictures' Screen Gems had said in September 2015 that Resident Evil: The Final Chapter has commenced principal photography in South Africa, in Cape Town and Johannesburg.

"Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, humanity is on its last legs after Alice is betrayed by Wesker in Washington D.C.
