Actor-turned-politician Nandamuri Harikrishna suffered severe head injuries in a car accident on Wednesday morning. He was immediately rushed to the Kamineni hospital but succumbed to the injuries.

The car accident took place at around 6:30 am in Nalgonda, 100 km from Hyderabad, when Nandamuri Balakrishna was on his way to attend a wedding in Nellore. Two passengers in his car escaped with injuries. The police are currently investigating the case and their primary reports point to five reasons that caused the car accident.

1 Reckless driving

Nandamuri Harikrishna, who was crazy about driving, was in the driver seat of his SUV, a Toyota Fortuner. It was reported that he was driving at a speed of up to 150 to 160 km per hour. The police sources claim that he wanted to make it to the wedding by 9 am. But they are yet to confirm the speed.

2 Not wearing seat belt

Nalagonda SP AV Ranganath said Harikrishna was not wearing a seat belt. Hence, he was thrown out of the car, which hit a median and turned turtle. The doors of the vehicle were flung open on impact and the actor fell on the other side of the road.

"Had he used a seat belt, probably the impact would have been less and he could have survived. According to the other passengers in the car, he did not wear a seat belt and was also driving at high speed," the police official said.

3 Negligence about small curve

The Nalagonda SP said that Harikrishna was asking for a water bottle when he missed noticing a slight curve on the road. He tried to control the vehicle, but could not stop it from hit the divider.

However, the news about Nandamuri Harikrishna's death in the car accident came as a rude shock to many across the Telugu states. Soon after his body was brought to Hyderabad, thousands of fans, political leaders and celebs from the film industry including Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna and Venkatesh visited his Mehdipatnam residence and their last respect to the former TDP MP.
