Micromax's A116 Canvas HD smartphone, which hit a record sales of 9,000 units in less than 24 hours of its launch on 14 February, is currently facing shipment problems leading to a further delay in sales.
The delay in shipment came soon after the first lot of A116 Canvas HD units were sold out. Consumers who placed order for the handset after the first batch have been kept waiting. According to a latest statement release by Snapdeal, the shipment is delayed further due to some procedural issues.
"We know that some of you have been facing issue with regard to the Order placed for Micromax Canvas HD. We understand your concern and it is unfortunate that Micromax had to delay the orders due to procedural issues. Our team has vehemently dispatched the first lot of the orders despite the demand for it being at its peak. We along with Micromax have communicated by an e-mail to each and every customer about the reason for the delay and the next course of action," said Snapdeal on its Facebook page.
According to Micromax, A116 Canvas HD which was launched for ₹13,990 will now be sold for ₹14,499. The retail price was raised after the implementation of the government proposed hike in duty of handsets which are priced above ₹2,000.
"The proposed Finance Bill announced by the honorable Finance Minister of India on 28th Feb 2013 has made certain changes in the customs duty structure on all Mobile Phones with MRP greater than ₹2000/-. Because of this and other procedural issues, the shipment of your Canvas HD has been delayed by 10 working days. Along with the delay, the price of Canvas HD has also been revised to ₹14,499," said Micromax.
For customers who pre-ordered the phone after the sale of the first batch are exempted from the hike. Micromax said it is willing to refund the money to those who wish to cancel their orders.

A116 Canvas HD boasts a 5-inch HD IPS screen with 1280x720 pixel resolution and 16.7 million colour depth. It is powered by MediaTek's MT6589 1.2 GHz quad core processor and runs on Android Jelly Bean 4.1 operating system. Other features and specifications include a 2000mAh battery, 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 1GB RAM and 4GB internal storage which is expandable up to 32GB via micro SD support. It also has support for 3G, WIFI, Bluetooth and GPS/A-GPS.
