What's so special about the first Monday of May? Because it's time for the fashion Oscar again. Started in 1946, the most fashionable night of the year takes place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
The big night is actually the Costume Institute fundraising gala to celebrate the newest exhibition which dictates the theme of the year.
Here are the five highlights from this year's event you need know:
This year the theme is celebrating the life of Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons. And, this is the second time when the Met is conferring a living designer on the day. The first designer was Yves Saint Laurent in 1983.
The Met will exhibit an exclusive collection of Kawakubo from May 4 onwards. It will showcase 150 extraordinary pieces from the legendary designer's work for Japanese brand Comme des Garcons. It is said to be believed that the exhibition might draw a large number of visitors that may break some of the old records.
The Met Gala is co-chaired by Vogue US editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, as the entire event is organised by the US Vogue team. Anna Wintour will be joined by the likes of Katy Perry, Pharrell Williams, and the celeb couple Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady.
The 2017 Met Gala will continue the social media ban since it was implemented last year. But there must be someone who would break the rule!
Talking about social media, fans can witness their favourite fashion icon through Vogue's Facebook live event. It will showcase a live 360-degree view of the extravaganza.
From Blake Lively, Lady Gaga to Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, most of the Hollywood A–listers will be seen walking on the met Gala red carpet. Every who's who from the fashion world, actors, models, artistes come together to attend this beautiful event.
