Rupee Depreciation Impact: Mercedes-Benz Likely To Announce Price Hike In India Reuters

Luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz on Thursday brought its sports sedan car E 63 AMG to Indian shores for a whopping price of ₹1.29 crore (ex-showroom Delhi).

The German company, which is seeking to expand its foothold in the domestic auto market, introduced its luxury sedan at the Buddh International circuit in Greater Noida. The latest additions to Mercedes luxury car line-up in the country include A Class, B Class (diesel) and an all-new E Class.

"The launch of the new E 63 AMG further reiterates our promise of bringing fascinating cars and providing a memorable brand experience for customers," said Eberhard Kern, managing director and chief executive, Mercedes-Benz India at the launch.

On the mechanical front, the newly launched E 63 AMG car packs a 5.5-litre V8 BITURBO engine with a displacement of 5,461 cc which churns out a power of 410 kW (557 hp) @5500 rpm and a torque of 720 Nm at 1750-5250 rpm. It accelerates from zero to 100 km per hour in merely 4.2 seconds and can attain a top speed of 250 km per hour. In terms of safety features, the vehicle has eight airbags, including adaptive dual stage airbags and side impact air bags.

"The year 2013 has been marked as the year of the offensive for Mercedes India. We have already received tremendous response for the A-Class and E-Class and today's launch of the new E63 AMG further reiterates our promise to bring fascinating cars to India," Kern said.

The company which has aggressive plans for the Indian market eyes double digit growth in the country for the current financial year.
