German luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz on Monday pulled the wraps off its highly anticipated roadster SLK-55 AMG in India, with a price tag of ₹1.26 crore (ex-showroom).

On the mechanical front, the car packs packs a 5.5 litre naturally aspirated V8 engine, which churns out a maximum power of 421PS and a peak torque of 540Nm. SLK-55 AMG accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.6 seconds and is mated to an AMG Speedshift 7G-Tronic Plus automatic gearbox. It claims to offer a fuel efficiency of 11.89kmpl and comes in three drive modes - Controlled Efficiency, Sports and Manual.

"With the Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG, we unleash our AMG product (range) offensive for the Indian market as we plan to introduce remaining products from our global portfolio for the Indian customers," said Mercedes Benz India Managing Director and CEO Eberhard Kern as quoted by PTI.

In India, the latest offering of Mercedes will compete with Porsche Cayman, Jaguar F Type, Audi R8 and BMW Z4. The highly acclaimed hard-top two-seater car hosts a slew of features like Thermotronic 2-zone automatic climate control, sports pedal cluster with rubber studs, lockable glove compartment and boot lighting. Other features of the vehicle include 18-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels, Eco Start/Stop system, AMG Sport/performance suspension, AMG sport exhaust, Torque vectoring brake and ESP.

According to a Zigwheel report, the car is open for booking in the country with an advance payment of ₹22 lakh. Currently, the German carmaker has five AMG cars in its India portfolio - the E-63, the C-63, the G-63 and the SLS AMG coupe, besides its roadster model. The company is expected to bring two the other models - CLA saloon and the GLA SUV - to India by 2014.
