It was indeed an emotional moment for Sunny Deol, as after a long period of cold vibes and friction with the media, the actor finally confronted them and spoke about his mental health and how the passing of his father had affected him.
On Friday, the cast and crew of Border 2 launched the music video of the film's song Ghar Kab Aaoge at an amphitheatre built in front of the Tanot Mata Temple in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.
During the event, Bollywood star Sunny Deol revealed that he did the original Border (1997) after watching his late father, veteran actor Dharmendra's film Haqeeqat.
At the launch of the song Ghar Kab Aaoge, Sunny Deol was visibly emotional. Speaking to the media, he said, "I did Border because when I watched my father's film Haqeeqat, I loved it deeply. I was very young then. And when I became an actor, I decided that I too would do a film like my father's. I spoke to JP Dutta saab, and we both decided that we would make a film on the Longewala subject, one that is very dear and now lives in everyone's hearts..."
He added, "Aur ab main zyada kuch keh nahi paunga kyunki thoda mera dimaag hila hua hai."
(And now I won't be able to say much more because my mind is a bit shaken.)
He also took a moment to thank the jawans present at the event for making him feel like a part of their family ever since Border released. He acknowledged how the film went on to inspire countless young Indians to join the armed forces.
Just a few days earlier, Sunny was present at the premiere of his father's last release, Ikkis, a war drama based on the Indo-Pak war of 1971. Paparazzi videos from the event showed him visibly moved as he posed in front of his father's poster.

Sunny also recently shared a heartfelt post on Instagram on the occasion of Ikkis' release, writing, "Our Papa, the man of the soil, Ikkis is his salute, his gift to the earth he loved and to the fans who always stood by him. For our family, it is a treasure filled with his spirit, courage, and his heart. Today, with love and immense pride, we share it with the world, hoping it lives on the way he does, forever."
Border 2 is a sequel to the 1997 classic and is directed by Anurag Singh. The film boasts an ensemble cast including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. Produced by T-Series and JP Dutta's J P Films, Border 2 will release theatrically on January 23, 2026.
