An army jawan was allegedly killed by some eve-teasers when he tried to save a teenaged girl from the harassment in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut district recently.

According to reports, the victim--identified as Vadmitra Chaudhary (31)--was beaten up by the accused youths with rods on Thursday and he succumbed to death in a hospital a day later.

Some youths were teasing the girl at a shop at Hardev Nagar in Meerut, following which the her brother and the soldier tried to save her, it was reported. Chaudhary some how managed to protect the girl and the eve-teasers fled the spot, but they came back with more men some time later and attacked him and the victim's brother with rods.

Vadmitra, who was from the 58 Engineers Regiment at HQ 416 Engineers Brigade Camp in Meerut, suffered severe head injury in the attack and died in a military hospital.

"When my teenage daughter came to the dairy to serve us tea, some youths started teasing her. Hearing her screams, my son Sachin and Vadmitra rushed out to help her. Vadmitra was able to overpower the youths and they ran away. But soon they returned and beat Sachin and Vadmitra badly," The Times of India quoted the girl's father, Krishanpal.

An FIR was lodged against seven men out of which three have been arrested.

"An FIR has been lodged against three identified persons and four unidentified men. We have arrested the three identified persons and efforts are on to nab the rest," a report quoted superintendent of police Om Prakash as saying.
