A violent magnitude 7.1 earthquake has hit Antarctica. No tsunami warning has been issued yet, but sources say the Bristol Islands, home several active volcanoes in the south Atlantic ocean.

The epicentre of the earthquake is reported to be just 61 km off the northeastern coast of Bristol. US Pacific Tsunami Warning Center is monitoring the earthquake and has yet to issue any warnings.
