Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest car maker is leaving no stone unturned in its efforts to tap new volume in the Indian market. After launching its big car Ciaz in the domestic market, Maruti's upcoming Crossover SX4–Cross is now out on the road for testing.
NDTV Auto has managed to click the pictures of Maruti's SX4–Cross, which has been spied testing on National Highway 8. The SX4 S-Cross was first seen at Delhi Auto Expo 2014 and since then auto enthusiasts in the country were left with the question as to when will the crossover reach our dealerships. Now it looks like the launch is not too far, as it is going through rigorous testing in the country.
Although the SX 4-Cross concept was unveiled in the country almost ten months ago and the car is also on sales in European markets, the upcoming crossover of Maruti is still seen hiding beneath the camouflage.
Judging from the images, the India specific model of SX4-Cross looks quite different from the international model and spotted here is the test mule version of the crossover without roof rails and the three-piece horizontal slat grille. However, going by the words of original publisher of the spy shots, the above-mentioned features are likely to be there on the production version. There have been rumours that the Maruti crossover will accommodate features like LED daytime-running lights, 16-inch alloy wheels, scuff plates and black cladding.
As far as the engine is concerned, in India, the SX4-Croos is likely to come with 1.6-litre diesel engine, which can churn out a power of 118 bhp with a peak torque of 32 kgm and expect it to get six-speed manual gearbox. In Europe, it is sold with 1.6 litre petrol engine, which can churn out 120 PS peak power and 156nm peak torque and 1.6 litre MultiJet engine, capable of generating 120 PS and 320nm torque.
At this point of time, price details are sketchy, but the SX4-cross is expected to fall in the price tag of around ₹13 lakh.
Maruti's Crossover will be pinned to rival Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport and Nissan Terrano.
