"Main Tera Hero" (MTH), starring Varun Dhawan, Ileana D'Cruz and Nargis Fakhri, held up strong in several circuits on Monday, fetching ₹4.2 crore.

"#MainTeraHero passes the Monday test. Nets a staggering ₹4.2 cr nett in India on Monday. Today's holiday will boost biz further," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

After the World T20 cricket matches on Friday and Sunday, the film was expected to fetch well on Monday, and it lived up to the expectations. The four-day total of the romantic comedy, action entertainer now stands at ₹26.93 crore.

Here is the day-wise breakup of "MTH": Friday ₹6.60 crore, Saturday ₹8.03 crore, Sunday ₹8.10 crore and Monday ₹4.2 crore. The film should do well on Tuesday, due to Ram Navami holiday in several parts of the country.

Meanwhile, "Main Tera Hero" posted the fourth highest opening weekend collections this year. Salman Khan's "Jai Ho" tops the list with ₹60.68 crore, Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor's "Gunday" is at second spot with ₹43.93 crore, while Sunny Leone's "Ragini MMS 2" is third with ₹24.50 crore.

While Varun successfully made a mark in India with his second film, he failed to charm the audience in the overseas markets.

"Main Tera Hero", directed by David Dhawan, is doing well in India but has performed poorly overseas. The film accumulated only ₹1.83 crore from the overseas market in its opening weekend.

From the US it raked in ₹73.54 lakh ($122,379) from 55 screens, from Canada it minted ₹23.72 lakh (US$ 39,467) from 15 screens, while the UK's opening weekend total is ₹67.29 lakh (£67,544) from 37 screens, and from 10 screens from Australia it raked in ₹18.59 lakh (A$ 33,356).
