After positive response to the TUV300 compact SUV, Mahindra is preparing yet another compact SUV, codenamed S101. The new vehicle is expected start a micro-SUV segment in India and will be positioned below the TUV300.

The industry calculation on the launch date was hovering around the festive season. A report from Oncar.in indicates the launch will happen only in early 2016.

The S101 has been glimpsed during tests many times in 2015. The vehicle is expected to have a price tag of under Rs 5 lakh. The S101 will come with raised ground clearance and upright stance, making it part of the pseudo-crossover category in which the Renault Kwid is the first entry.

The sub-4-metre micro-SUV will be built on a new monocoque platform that will underpin a variety of future Mahindra models. The vehicle is likely to draw power from a range of 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engine options Mahindra is perfecting by testing around the country. The model is also rumoured to be equipped with the AMT variant.

Mahindra S101 is expected to get a 3+3 seating configuration with bench-type seats in the front. The vehicle will be equipped with a range of safety features such as dual airbags, ABS with EBD in its top-end variant.

On the name, Mahindra is likely to continue with the new alphanumeric naming strategy started with the XUV500 followed by the TUV300. The S101 in-production version is expected to be named XUV100 or KUV100.
